14 Nov, 2024
Business Botswana, alongside media houses from Botswana, is participating in a three-day workshop in Sandton, Johannesburg, organised by the International Labour Organization (ILO). The workshop focuses on “Engagement with the Media on Employment and Labour Issues in Botswana, Eswatini, Lesotho, and South Africa.” It aims to equip participants with enhanced strategies for communicating critical labour and social issues through the media, while also exploring how the media can promote social justice and Decent Work.
During the session yesterday, Botswana’s Labour Market Information System (LMIS), launched in August, was showcased as a regional benchmark for its advanced data-driven approach. The LMIS provides precise labour market data, enabling stakeholders to monitor employment trends and workforce demands. This recognition underscores Botswana’s dedication to improving its labour market systems and supporting evidence-based policymaking.
Furthermore, Botswana’s active involvement in the ILO’s Global Coalition for Social Justice was highlighted. As a member of this coalition, Botswana reaffirms its commitment to promoting equitable labour standards worldwide, showcasing leadership in advocating for workers' rights and fostering inclusive economic growth.
This workshop serves as a crucial platform for strengthening regional collaboration and leveraging media to drive awareness on key labour and employment issues.
