COMMERCIALISATION OF THE CREATIVE ARTS AND SPORTS SECTORS HAS THE POTENTIAL TO SIGNIFICANTLY DRIVE ECONOMIC GROWTH

Yesterday, Business Botswana, led by CEO Mr. Norman Moleele, paid a courtesy call to Honourable Minister Jacob Kelebeng, Minister of Sports and Arts. Also in attendance were the Creative Arts and Media Sector Chairperson, Mr. Tonderai Tsara, Vice Chairperson, Film and Content Creator, Mr. Prince Monna, Mr. Kabelo Rapinyana, Vice Chairperson, Association Communication Agencies and Mr. Mpaphi Tsholofelo, BB Head of Policy and Advocacy.
Mr. Moleele congratulated the Minister on his appointment and reiterated Business Botswana’s commitment to working closely with the Ministry to create an enabling environment for the sector to thrive. He also briefed the Minister on Business Botswana's role in the economy, highlighting its functions as an Employer Organisation, Chamber of Commerce, and Business Representative Body that advocates for the private sector’s interests.
Mr. Tsara echoed Mr. Moleele’s sentiments, emphasising that the sector is ready to collaborate with the government in commercialising the arts and creative sectors to drive job creation and economic growth. He also highlighted several challenges hindering the sector's growth, including limited access to funding, underutilised infrastructure, and the need for improved platforms to showcase local talent.
In response, Honourable Minister Kelebeng expressed appreciation for Business Botswana's advocacy and commitment to the sector. He acknowledged the challenges raised and assured the team of the Ministry’s dedication to addressing these issues through collaboration with stakeholders such as Business Botswana
