26 Aug, 2025
Yesterday, 25th August 2025, unfolded with energy and anticipation as the 18th Botswana Consumer Fair officially opened its doors. The air at Fairground Holdings buzzed with the spirit of entrepreneurship, drawing in exhibitors and business leaders from across Botswana and beyond. This annual gathering has long been a hub for market access, networking, and cross-sector collaboration, once again reaffirming its place as a launchpad for innovation and trade.
Among the distinguished guests was Business Botswana President, Mr. Neo Nwako, accompanied by CEO, Mr. Norman Moleele. The highlight of the morning came when Mr. Nwako, as Guest of Honour, was serenaded with a moving poem by the Mafitlhakgosi Traditional Dance Group, who hailed him as a true connector of businesses in Botswana. In a touching gesture, he encouraged the audience to support local talent by sending digital contributions to the group, symbolizing the blend of culture, technology, and economic empowerment.
In his keynote address, Mr. Nwako drew a clear line between the mandate of Business Botswana and the essence of the Consumer Fair, both striving to remove barriers and create a fertile environment where businesses of every size can flourish.
Speaking to the theme “Embracing Innovation and Technology for Economic Transition,” he reminded the audience that Botswana’s future cannot rest on old traditional centres. Instead, the path forward must be guided by:
* Innovation and diversification
* Smart agriculture powered by data and automation
* Digitization of government systems to eliminate inefficiencies and queues that hinder productivity
* Clean and sustainable energy to secure long-term growth
His words painted a vision of a Botswana that is future-ready, where young minds step forward with solutions, and technology becomes the driving force of economic transformation.
Day one of the Botswana Consumer Fair thus set the tone, not only as a marketplace, but as a stage where ideas, culture, and innovation converge for the nation’s progress.
