Her Excellency Ms Erika Ylonca of the Dominican Republic, this morning, paid a courtesy call on the Acting CEO of Business Botswana, Mr Mpaphi Tsholofelo.
Ms Ylonca highlighted that this is the first-ever Embassy of the Dominican Republic accredited to Botswana. She emphasised the strategic importance of strengthening collaboration between the two countries.
Welcoming the Ambassador, the Acting CEO, Mr Tsholofelo, expressed appreciation for the visit and provided an overview of Business Botswana’s mandate. He underscored the organisation’s two primary roles:
i) Advocating and lobbying the government to improve the ease of doing business and support a private-sector-led–led economy; and
ii) Business facilitation, linking local businesses with international counterparts to unlock opportunities, including market access, investment, and partnerships.
Ambassador Ylonca noted that the Dominican Republic is ranked Number 1 in Central and Latin America as a tourism destination and is one of the fastest-growing economies in the region. She also expressed interest in exploring collaboration in the mining sector, as well as wildlife conservation and related opportunities. Furthermore, she indicated her intention to formalise a partnership between Business Botswana and the Dominican Chamber of Commerce.
