Business Botswana Calls for Greater Opportunities for Women in Mining

Business Botswana CEO, Tumi Mbaakanyi, has called for stronger efforts to create meaningful opportunities for women to participate in, and benefit from, Botswana’s mining sector. Speaking at the Women in Mining Conference 2026 yesterday, she emphasised the need to move beyond conversations about inclusion and focus on practical pathways for women to enter, grow and lead businesses across the mining value chain including engineering, logistics, technology and professional services.
Ms Mbaakanyi noted that this would give women-owned businesses opportunities and lead to overall benefits of job creation, skills development and broader economic diversification. She called for greater collaboration among Government, Mining Companies, Financial Institutions and the rest of the Private Sector to improve women’s access to especially markets, finance and skills.
